Stamp 4

The stamps represent my father’s preoccupation with collecting “stuff.” I recently discovered his small stamp collection - mail delivered on the east coast of North Carolina between the years 1955-1957. They have no financial value, as they are not rare, but hidden away for years in a small envelope. They were saved with innocence in an innocent time. Hidden messages among messages as pressed as cancellation stamps on stamps were used to promote social ideals.

For me they represent a treasure of the saved moment. I find myself as an artist moved by the color and shapes of the compositional elements. I have changed the proportional relationship between the viewer and stamps in an effort to make the everyday monumental.
